Against my better judgement, I’m trying Twitter out for a while. Probably a test run of a week or so, to see how it goes. Mine is here, let’s be friends so I can actually see if this is at all useful. If you aren’t using it, sign up and start so I’m not so gosh darn lonely.

Mew

Mew was amazing, obviously. Their sound is definitely less “floaty” than their recordings, but they more than make up for it with rocking. One of the better shows I’ve been to. I can’t really say much else about it, besides, “EEEeeeEeeEEeeee!”

Side note: At the end of the show, both the lead singer and guitarist just dropped their guitars and walked off stage, leaving them to feedback. (Feed back or feedback? Is feedback a verb too?) Matt Bellamy of Muse did/does the same thing. I guess it’s a space rock thing.

Pinocchio's Pepper + Onion

We spent yesterday walking around Harvard Square. Most of the stores are expensive or annoying or both, but there were a few cool one. We met up with Kimberly and had pizza at Pinocchio’s. It, too, was amazing. Mine is pictured above, a Sicilian slice of green pepper and onion. We stopped at Boston Tea Stop after that and I had a raspberry slush with boba - deviating from my usual green apple, for once. It was well worth it! The drink was made with fresh raspberries - there were seeds! - and it was very tasty.

Blah blah boring boring. I hate writing about when we do things, it always seems so boring. “We went here! Then we went here and I ate food! Then we went somewhere else!” Perhaps it’s just my poor writing ability, I don’t know. I don’t even mind reading when Theresa writes about us going places, but for whatever reason my writing bores me to tears. Shrug.

I fixed my headphones! We have been trading my crappy earbuds back and forth since my slightly-less-crappy cup headphones stopped working. Instead of spending $15-20 on a new pair, I decided to crack these open and see if I could make them work. Fun fact: headphone wire is often insulated with a thin coat of enamel paint to prevent the wires from shorting out, while still keeping cord weight low. I couldn’t get any sound from the speakers at first, before I knew the wires were insulated. 5 minutes of burning off the insulation later, and sound had returned. Fixing things makes me so happy.

I’m going to go make music now.

Tonight is the Mew show! Woot! Pictures tomorrow!

Apparently my post about Passover Coke blew some minds (awesome,) and someone linked to it from The Secret Unicorns forum. (Thanks, Google Analytics!)I don’t even know who or what they/that is, but, hi new viewers. Sorry my site is so broken. I’ll fix that soon.

“Why are you still awake?”

Good question! Passover Coke = caffeinated! Also, I’m working on an awesome idea that I had earlier today. Busting a cycle and getting rid of some brain crack. (Thanks, Ze!) If all goes well, it’ll be done by tomorrow morning and I probably won’t have slept. Wooooooooooo! (I’m so tired and the bed looks very inviting and warm and cozy, but I need to finish this. I think I’m trying to prove something.)

Passover Coke [Mar. 20th, 2007|06:38 pm]

Passover Coke

This seemingly-normal 2-liter bottle of Coca-Cola is hiding an awesome, tasty secret:

Passover Coke - Bottle Cap

See that Hebrew writing? It means…well, I’m not sure what it reads, exactly. But I *do* know what it implies:

Passover Coke - Ingredients

Notice the difference? No high fructose corn syrup! It seems that during Passover, The Rules prevent observers from consuming any chametz - which includes corn. Coke knows, as we all do, how Jews are with money (wink!) so to prevent a loss in sales over the 8-day period, Coke offers an adjusted formula using cane sugar, just like they used to do in the US and still do in most parts of the planet. And it tastes better, too. Theresa, a non-sodaholic, even tasted the difference. “Not as cheap tasting,” she said, and it’s true. It has a nicer mouth-feel and seems “thicker” than normal Coke. Plus, the taste is more natural.

This sort of Coke can be found most of the time, but you have to search for it at Mexican grocery stores. For now, it’ll just be in the Passover section of your local supermarket. Thanks, Angel of Death!

I shook things up a bit! Sorry for any confusion.

We hit up the St. Patrick’s Day parade in South Boston today. It was so cold that we had to leave early and MISS THE STORMTROOPERS (seriously, Stormtroopers and Snowtroopers and Darth Vader and Boba Fett too,) but it was still pretty amazing. BOB BACKLUND was there. MR. BOB BACKLUND. I wanted to ask him to put me in the crossface chickenwing but I was too cold and, to be honest, a bit scared of the man. There was lots of candy thrown too. Also giant tin men. By far, the best parade I’ve been to.

This week, I’m going to make new friends!

I really can’t wait for it to get warm. Again.

Spent yesterday out with Theresa in the BLIZZARD. We went to Yi Soon Bakery and Infusions Tea Spa. Tasty! Their bubble tea wasn’t as artificial tasting as Lollicup, but that might have just been psychological.

I also deep-fried tofu for the first time yesterday. It didn’t turn out exactly like I expected, the tofu I usually get from restaurants is darker and sort of concave. Mine ended up lighter and a bit convex. I tried marinating it in soy sauce, but that didn’t do anything. Maybe I’m using the wrong oil (I used veggie oil; peanut, perhaps?) or the wrong type of tofu (I used firm; extra firm?) It wasn’t BAD for sure, and if nothing else I now have oil for fries.

These are amazing effect pedals, and I guess Christopher knows the guy who makes them. Or his girlfriend or something, I dunno. Either way, I want all of them.

I’m starting a space rock project. I have the rough, rough foundation of three songs so far, one of which actually has an opening! Drums AND bass! (Not DnB.) I’ve got a name, too, but no telling yet. I don’t want to be too hopeful, but I might actually do something with this one.

Today is the last episode of The Show. Ze will end up somewhere amazing, no doubt, but it’s still sad to see this end.

It’s St. Patrick’s Day! Pinch someone!

Got the Mew tickets today. I’m really happy about it, I’ve been DOWN lately and listening to them an awful lot. Space pop always makes me feel better.

I hope they play Snow Brigade:

(Yes, obviously lipsynched, but FUCKING AMAZING nonetheless. This show is going to rule hard.)

(Er, the vocals are real, but nothing else, it seems! Inverted lipsynch!)

Not as sick!

The weather has been great here. Boston is so much nicer when it’s not freezing-to-death cold.

We went to IKEA today. It was Theresa’s and my first time. What an incredible place! So many fake rooms! And rows of carts! We bought lamps, but mine is too bright so I’m going to have to exchange it for another soon. Theresa’s gives off a devastating pink glow and makes our bedroom look like a Love Den from outside. Richard bought a Mikael desk, black like Christopher’s only it was in the As Is section because of a little dent on the leg and was marked down from $60 to $35! And, since he doesn’t have room for it, I get to keep it in here and use it for a bit. Yay loandesk. I think it’s a bit too large, but if I get used to it perhaps I’ll buy one for myself.

Found a 3-bedroom for rent that might be awesome, and for really cheap. More and more later.

(no subject) [Mar. 10th, 2007|04:58 pm]

I am even more sick! My face hurts!

Also, looking in to building myself a new desk. (More likely ‘hacking’ resale shop furniture.) I just want something really simple, and pretty much everything I’ve seen is either super-cheap (particle board + stick-on wood grain,) gaudy (glass desks, weird metal legs,) and/or way more expensive than it should be (Mikael.) I’m going to do some scouting around and see if I can find anything promising.

Oh, also, we’re moving AGAIN because of stupid landlords. Seriously, what luck. The upside is, the apartment we’re looking at is really nice and, literally, right across the street. We looked at some 4-bedroom places in the building that were really awesome but had a fee, and we found some 3-bedroom places for rent in the same building and with no fee. We really only need 3 bedrooms, and we’re going to view them tomorrow. This move would only be until September, when Theresa and I are getting our own place, where we’ll HOPEFULLY PLEASE be staying for more than a few months like most of our recent living arrangements have been. We really need to settle already.

I love it when a plan comes together. [Mar. 9th, 2007|12:52 pm]

PROBLEMS:
- I have been mildly sick and rather cold lately.
- Shower is clogged, won’t drain. A serious clog, 2 bottles of drain unclogger and hours of plunging didn’t fix it.
- Landlord is stopping by.
- Heating in apartment is awful and inefficient, and one of the radiators is explody.
- Internet won’t work in our room because the Powerbook doesn’t have a wireless card and the Dell laptop Theresa is using has a weak wireless card that drops the signal. I have to piggy-back off her single via connection bridge to get internet at all, so my connection is even worse.
- No light in our bedroom; no overhead lighting, no small lamps, one dim big lamp that gives off orange light.
- Our bed keeps rolling. The frame is on wheels and any time one of us leans against the wall, it scoots forward. Pillows get lost down the crack, ANNOYING.
- The right cup of my headphones stopped working.

SOLUTIONS:
- Lots of sleeping. Productivity down, getting better up.
- Plumber was called, just sort of came in at 8AM (???) without waiting for us to answer the door, fixed clog.
- Landlord didn’t stop by, but we super-cleaned the apartment anyway so now everything is nice and clean.
- Electrician is here replacing the radiator now, should be more efficient and better at heating.
- Ordered a 50′ cat5 cable yesterday to run from the router in Christopher’s room to our router in our bedroom, to create a sub-LAN for Theresa and myself.
- We’re borrowing a nice table lamp from the living room that gives off more than enough light for the room, until we can take a trip to Ikea to buy some cheap lighting.
- We’re taking a trip to Target this weekend to buy coasters (casters?) for the bed frame so it doesn’t scoot.
- New headphones from Target.

TASKS LEFT TO DO:
- Reposition desk to it is not wobbly.
- Go through stack of papers on desk, organize.
- Take pictures of the newly-cleaned apartment.
- Write down some of the weird ideas I’ve had floating around in my head lately.
- Contact Philip and Pendelton.
- Write song to submit for comp.

20 Reasons Why I Love Theresa, in no particular order:

#1 - Because she puts up with (maybe even LIKES) watching Nova with me.

#2 - Because she raised the best kitty ever (with a little help from me!)

#3 - “I’m gonna call a plumber.” :[

#4 - She’s beautiful. Duh. I could fill a whole other list of 20 reasons why she’s so beautiful, but that’d be too easy.

#5 - Because she doesn’t tease me (too often) for being the same height as her NOT 1/2 SHORTER BUT THE EXACT SAME HEIGHT.

#6 - Because she bought a little Kogepan that I had wanted for like 3 years, that no one else had bought ever bought for me, after only having spent like 2 days with me.

#7 - The version of us as Home Movies characters.

#8 - Because she doesn’t mind me wearing her pink slippers with little fuzzy balls on them because my feet are cold.

#9 - Because she isn’t TOO creeped out by #8.

#10 - Because she cooks the best spaghetti + garlic ever for me, and I still can’t make it quite right myself.

#11 - Because besides me, she’s one of the few people our age who are still okay with admitting that they like watching television. And not just downloading a few shows, but actually WATCHING it.

#12 - Dappermobile.

#13 - Because she is proud of me for even the littlest accomplishments or talents I might have.

#14 - Because she keeps me from dying my hair bright red again.

#15 - Because she’s creative and unique. She does what she wants whether it’s trendy or not, and keeps doing what she does even if it becomes trendy.

#16 - Because she puts up with my obsession with fonts. I mean, I know relationships are all about being interested in your significant others’ interests, but Christ. Fonts, to someone non-obsessed, must be more boring than hearing about the new Insert_Holiday_Here Ponies like every month. (jk!)

#17 - Because she knows like every frickin’ My Little Pony. Come on. There are like hundreds. I can’t help but love that sort of obsession. (See #16, fonts)

#18 - Because she tried to kill me with an EXPLODING ICE CRUSHER for Christmas 2005. The counter sacrificed itself for me.

#19 - Because of Teddy, and how similar Teddy and I are. No matter how few times we change our shirt, or how smelly we get from not being washed for a few years, or how often we fall off the bed, she still snuggles us.

#20 - Because I wouldn’t be me without her.

I Hate You, Rob Crow [Mar. 2nd, 2007|01:24 am]

I Hate You, Rob Crow

Sorry for the sort-of-awful picture. Theresa is way better at the self-portrait thing, but I needed to get a picture of my incredible new Rob Crow shirt. Got it from the show at TT The Bear’s last night, the show was pretty awesome too. I don’t have much to say about it, as I’m tired and only awake to finish off some work for the night, but I’m sure the pretty lady will have more to say as soon as we get pics uploaded. Rob has way too much talent for one human being. I don’t think he’s ever written a bad song!

Bwahaha, I just noticed Sakura in the background of the picture. Best kitty ever.

New (Used) Bag

I picked up a used manbag from Urban Renewals for $4. It’s no Jack Pack, but it’ll definitely work, and for way cheaper. The blurred letters are from my trying to remove them with nail polish remover. It’s sort of working. Now, if I could only get a laptop to put in it…

I have a Theresa on me, who has a Sakura on her. Best family ever.

The website is looking better now. More to add though, hopefully this week. Busy work week. For now, hot chocolate plus cryptology equals bed.

Things I need before Spring:
1) A hat. (I either want the green with red star, or the black with skull + crossbones. omg pirate. Sorry Theresa, if you don’t find me a better hat first, I’m on my own! :D)
2) A Jack Pack.

Our tickets to the Rob Crow show arrived. Does anyone have any CREATIVE suggestions on how to display/archive old ticket stubs? We have a ton, and will have a ton more over the next X months (lots of concerts to go to.) Non-destructive methods would be preferred, as we seem to move around a lot. i.e. “SUPER GLUE THEM TO THE WALL” is out.

The LiveJournal cross-posty thing seems to prevent my entries from showing up on Theresa’s friend page, so a lot of you probably won’t even see this! WHAT A SUCCESS

[Edit] FIXED. I found that the problem was due to all the cross-posted entries being marked as Date Out Of Order, whether they were supposed to be or not. The option is there to make it easier to mass-import into a LiveJournal, without flooding your Friends’ pages or anything. The variable was set WEIRD in the code - the option is boolean, but the output wasn’t. So, I manually overrode the option (and a few others in the Journal Item Meta-Data array, and presto chango worko. I am the King Nerd!
